France should consider joining BRICS as a way to return to its traditional support for a multipolar world, according to Aymeric Chauprade, former French member of the European Parliament and geopolitical analyst.
Speaking to Sputnik during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Chauprade noted that while France’s potential BRICS membership may seem unconventional, the country has historically backed a multipolar approach in its foreign policy.
Chauprade highlighted that after the presidency of Jacques Chirac, France shifted toward a more U.S.-aligned position on the global stage. However, he argued that joining BRICS would align with France’s “natural policy” and be a realistic step toward reasserting its independence and influence in global geopolitics.
