Putin hints at the establishment of a BRICS parliament

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that the BRICS coalition might consider establishing its own parliament in the future, Yenis Afak reports.

Speaking at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg, Putin highlighted the increasing need for institutional frameworks that can facilitate deeper cooperation and coordination among member states. “The establishment of a BRICS parliament could serve as a powerful platform for legislative dialogue and integration,” Putin remarked. “It would enable us to harmonise our policies, enhance mutual understanding, and address common challenges more effectively.”

Support for the idea has been echoed by other BRICS leaders, who see it as an opportunity to enhance the group’s operational efficiency and strategic alignment. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the potential of a BRICS parliament to streamline legislative processes and facilitate the implementation of joint initiatives. “A unified parliamentary body could significantly improve our ability to execute collaborative projects and policies,” Modi stated.
