Putin praises China ties and new BRICS era, ahead of key trip

Russian President Vladimir Putin says BRICS has entered a period of “greater cooperation.”

Ahead of his state visit to China last week, Putin expressed his admiration for the collaboration between Russia and China on the global stage, Big News Network reports. He highlighted the alignment of their positions on key international issues, including their shared advocacy for the primacy of international law and support for equal, comprehensive, and sustainable security frameworks.

Putin underscored the role of multilateral mechanisms like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in uniting countries from the “Global South” with principles of equality, openness, and inclusiveness. He praised these platforms as pillars of the emerging multipolar world order, where participants engage in constructive political, security, economic, and cultural exchanges.

As Russia assumes the rotating chairmanship of BRICS, Putin highlighted the momentum gained during its leadership, with extensive plans for cooperation across various domains. A key focus is on integrating new members seamlessly into the existing framework and enhancing the visibility of BRICS on the global stage. This effort aligns with the broader goal of promoting a democratic, stable, and equitable international architecture.

Putin reiterated that BRICS cooperation is rooted in principles of mutual respect, equality, and consensus, making it an attractive platform for countries in the Global South and East to voice their concerns and contribute to shaping global affairs.
