Russia has established a National Committee for Business Cooperation within the BRICS framework, aimed at strengthening coordination between government authorities and the private sector in expanding economic ties with fellow member states.
The committee was created by decree of Vladimir Putin on February 16, 2026, with the order taking effect on the day it was signed, according to TV BRICS.
Under the decree, the new body will facilitate cooperation between representatives of the business community and federal executive agencies involved in developing both multilateral and bilateral economic partnerships among BRICS countries.
The committee is also tasked with preparing proposals on priority areas of cooperation for the BRICS Business Council, as well as submitting recommendations to the Russian president and government on strengthening economic collaboration within the grouping.
Officials say the structure will monitor the progress of joint initiatives, help identify strategic directions for cooperation and assist in translating political agreements into concrete business projects.
Putin has appointed Maksim Oreshkin, the presidential special representative for trade and economic cooperation with BRICS countries and engagement with the New Development Bank, to chair the committee.
Russian officials said the move reflects the country’s intention to deepen long-term economic cooperation with other BRICS members, strengthen channels for private-sector engagement and address barriers affecting trade and investment.
The creation of the national committee comes as BRICS continues to develop institutional mechanisms aimed at expanding economic integration and improving coordination among member states, with new advisory structures and joint initiatives increasingly shaping the alliance’s evolving framework for business cooperation.
