2025: Will this be the Year of BRICS?

As 2025 begins, BRICS is embarking on a transformative path, with the announcement that nine new countries will officially join the alliance as partner states starting in January. This historic expansion marks a defining moment in BRICS’ evolution, underscoring its growing influence as a formidable counterforce to the enduring dominance of the West.

Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan will now align with BRICS’ core values of multipolarity, sovereignty, and equity, further enhancing its reach and importance in global governance. With Brazil assuming the chairmanship and the addition of new partners, BRICS is poised to reshape global power dynamics in unprecedented ways.

Reflecting on Russia’s pivotal role in 2024, it’s clear how far the alliance has come. Russia’s leadership was instrumental in reinforcing BRICS’ foundational principles and setting the stage for its long-term vision. The inclusion of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, expanding BRICS to nine full members, highlights the growing appeal and its potential to play a central role in fostering a more equitable international order.
