South Korea’s rise as an economic and tech powerhouse has made it a key player in global geopolitics, Asia Times reports. As an influential G20 member and active participant in multilateral forums, South Korea has consistently championed increased representation for emerging economies in global governance.
Though not a BRICS member, South Korea aligns with many of the coalition’s goals, especially in pursuing diversified economic partnerships and reducing reliance on a Western-centric global order.
Through strategic policies like the New Southern Policy (NSP), South Korea seeks stronger ties with emerging economies across South and Southeast Asia—regions where BRICS nations, notably India, hold significant influence.
