China and Iran seek ‘durable ceasefire’ in Gaza at BRICS security conference

China and Iran have jointly advocated for a “durable ceasefire” in Gaza and the resumption of negotiations for a “two-state” solution, following their discussions at the BRICS security conference in Russia, SCMP reports.

During their meeting in St. Petersburg, China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, and Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Ahmadian addressed the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, focusing on the Gaza situation.

According to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement, both Wang and Ahmadian emphasized the need for “a complete withdrawal of troops” from Gaza, along with support for Palestinian sovereignty and self-governance.
