The BRICS nations have adopted a comprehensive framework on climate and sustainable development, outlining key aspects of joint efforts in this area, according to the Russian Economic Development Ministry.
Following the two-day BRICS Climate Agenda in Modern Conditions Forum in Moscow, the framework covers critical elements of climate action, including a just transition, mitigation, adaptation, carbon markets, finance, science, and business involvement, as reported by Sputnik.
Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said that all BRICS members agree on the need to stop unilateral green protectionist measures by developed nations, as these policies adversely affect the economies and supply chains of developing countries.
A memorandum of understanding was created within the BRICS Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development, focusing on a partnership for carbon markets. The Ministry said that this partnership will enable BRICS countries to share knowledge on carbon market development and collaborate on joint climate initiatives.
