BRICS are key to new world order, says Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin says the BRICS coalition is shaping the emerging multipolar world order, Tass reports. Speaking at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg, Putin articulated his vision of a global landscape where power is distributed more equitably among various influential nations, with BRICS playing a central part in this transition.

According to Putin, the coalition’s diverse makeup and collective economic weight make it a crucial player in the evolving international system. “The BRICS nations embody the principles of equality, mutual respect, and shared prosperity,” Putin remarked. “Together, we are working to foster a world order that reflects these values and promotes sustainable development for all.”

Putin’s assertion comes at a time when the global power structure is undergoing significant shifts. The traditional unipolar world order, dominated by the United States and its Western allies, is being challenged by the rise of other influential nations and blocs. In this context, BRICS has emerged as a formidable force advocating for a more balanced distribution of power and resources. The group’s combined population of over 3 billion people and substantial economic output underscore its potential to influence global policies and trends.

One of the key areas where BRICS is making its mark is in economic cooperation. The New Development Bank (NDB), established by BRICS, aims to mobilise resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in member countries and other emerging economies. Putin highlighted the NDB as a testament to the coalition’s commitment to economic inclusivity and resilience. “The New Development Bank is a cornerstone of our efforts to build a more equitable financial system that supports growth and development across all regions,” he said.

In addition to economic initiatives, BRICS has been proactive in addressing global security challenges. The coalition has called for reforms in international institutions, including the United Nations, to ensure that they are more representative and reflective of current geopolitical realities. Putin emphasised that BRICS advocates for a multipolar world where international law and multilateralism are upheld, countering the dominance of any single nation or group. “We believe in a world where sovereignty is respected, and nations work collaboratively to address common challenges,” Putin stated.

The technological and scientific collaboration among BRICS nations is another area where the group is exerting significant influence. Joint research projects, technology exchanges, and innovation partnerships are helping member countries enhance their capabilities and competitiveness in the global market. Putin noted that such collaborations are vital for ensuring that BRICS nations can leverage their collective strengths to drive progress and innovation. “Our combined efforts in science and technology are paving the way for breakthroughs that will benefit not just our countries, but the world at large,” he said.
