Suez Canal Economic Zone, Egypt’s rise as economic hub, emerge at New Development Bank forum

Waleid Gamal El-Dein, CEO of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), attended the inaugural forum of the New Development Bank (NDB) to celebrate Egypt’s membership since March 2023, Daily News Egypt reports.

In the session “Egypt as a Logistical Focal Point,” Gamal El-Dein highlighted SCZONE’s 2020-2025 strategy and its ports’ role in strengthening international supply chains. He emphasized infrastructure investments, particularly in green energy and ship bundling, as key to attracting further investments.

Prominent attendees included Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport; Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Minister of Civil Aviation; and representatives from the World Bank Group, COSCO Shipping Ports, and CICC. Gamal El-Dein outlined plans for infrastructure development in Qantara West aimed at boosting textile exports and enhancing BRICS cooperation.

The NDB delegation, led by Dilma Rousseff, will tour SCZONE’s Sokhna center, inspect Port of Sokhna’s progress, and visit TEDA – Egypt’s headquarters, showcasing over 15 years of collaboration.
