Should BRICS be worried about move to the right in South Africa and India?

Dr Reneva Fourie,  a policy analyst specialising in governance, development and security, has raised questions about the potential impact of rightward political shifts in South Africa and India on the BRICS alliance, IOL reports.

Recent elections in both countries led to significant changes: India’s BJP secured another term but with a reduced majority, pushing economic reforms and privatisation. South Africa’s ANC, also facing diminished support, gravitates towards right-leaning coalitions and market-oriented policies. These shifts may prioritise trade and foreign investment, potentially altering BRICS dynamics and focusing more on economic ties with Western powers.
