Leading Pakistani politician, Mushahid Hussain, has delivered a keynote speech expressing Pakistan’s ambition to join BRICS, DND reports.
He stated that as a member of the UN Security Council in 2025-2026, Pakistan would advocate for peace, justice, and the oppressed. Hussain highlighted the decline of the post-World War II Western order and emphasised the growing importance of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in shaping a new global order rooted in the UN Charter and international law.
He asserted that an expanded BRICS could promote democracy, demilitarisation, and dedollarisation in international relations. He criticised Western militarisation and the use of the dollar as a political weapon, noting that many countries, including Saudi Arabia, are shifting away from dollar-based trade.
Hussain welcomed President Putin’s Eurasian Security paradigm and President Xi Jinping’s Global Security Initiative, both emphasizing the indivisibility of security. He also commended Russia and China for their stance on the Gaza conflict, condemning Israel’s actions and highlighting the double standards of its Western supporters.
