Russia and Egypt discuss expansion plans

Against the backdrop of Russia assuming its 2024 presidency of the BRICS association, talks between Russia and Egypt have centred on the expansion and deepening of cooperation within the group of nations, Daily News Egypt reports. These discussions involved Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow Nazih El-Nagari.

The dialogue aimed to bolster cooperation among BRICS members under Russia’s leadership, with a particular focus on preparations for the upcoming summit slated for October in Kazan. Beyond the immediate agenda, the diplomats also delved into shared concerns on the international stage.

The relationship between Egypt and Russia holds historical significance. This relationship has strengthened particularly in recent times, with collaboration extending beyond bilateral matters to engagements within multilateral forums like BRICS.

It’s worth noting that BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has undergone significant expansion since its inception in 2006. Egypt, alongside Iran, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia, joined this group of nations this year.

The talks between Russia and Egypt on BRICS expansion and cooperation reflect the evolving dynamics within the association and the commitment of member nations to deepen collaboration for mutual benefit and global stability.
