
The Kremlin downplayed U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed threat to impose tariffs on BRICS nations if they moved to create a common currency, stating that no such plan exists.
Trump reiterated his warning to BRICS members against replacing the U.S. dollar as a reserve currency, echoing a 100% tariff threat he made shortly after winning the November presidential election.
However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov clarified that BRICS is not working on a single currency but is instead focused on joint investment platforms.
“This is not the first time Trump has made such statements, it’s not new. There have been statements like this before, back when he was just president-elect. So now, in fact, he has repeated his old thesis,” Peskov told reporters.
