China reaffirmed that BRICS does not advocate for confrontation and does not target any third parties. This statement came in response to US President Donald Trump’s recent comments about imposing 100% tariffs on BRICS nations if they attempt to reduce the use of the US dollar in trade.
India, meanwhile, has made it clear that it has “no interest” in weakening the US dollar. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said at the Doha Forum last December that India has never supported “de-dollarisation” and that there are no current proposals for a BRICS currency.
“The US is our largest trade partner. We have no interest in weakening the dollar at all,” Jaishankar had stated.
A Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson added, “BRICS, as a key platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing nations, promotes openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation. It does not seek bloc confrontation and is not aimed at any third party. The goal is to achieve common development and prosperity.”
