President Vladimir Putin called for the BRICS group to take on a more prominent role in global energy markets, as Russia seeks to counter Western influences.
He made the statements ahead of the Energy Week International Forum in Russia, where energy ministers from BRICS countries were expected to convene.
In a letter to forum participants and guests, Putin emphasised the importance of cooperation in the energy sector, stating that it is “clear” this collaboration would enhance quality of life, strengthen national economies, and address social challenges.
He added that the BRICS meeting would provide an excellent opportunity to discuss strategies for elevating the group’s influence as a global energy player.
In previous years, delegates from Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, have also participated in the forum.
