Zimbabwe has high hopes for BRICS membership after Games invite

Zimbabwe has its sights set on BRICS membership after receiving an invitation to participate in a sporting event organised by the global alliance, The Herald reported.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said the invitation to the BRICS Games set the stage for further economic and technical cooperation between Zimbabwe and Russia.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa said last year that Zimbabwe had submitted a request to join the BRICS New Development Bank. He said the application enjoyed the support of the Russian government.

The New Development Bank forms part of among development countries and those in the Global South to set their own economic agenda.
