Egypt appoints seasoned al-Eltreby as BRICS ambassador

The Egyptian government has appointed Ragy al-Etreby, Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional and International Economic Affairs, as the presidential representative of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the BRICS alliance.

Al-Eltreby has worked in the foreign affairs ministry for three decades and represented his country at the World Bank and G20.

In a statement posted on its Facebook account, the ministry informed the Brazilian rotating presidency of the G20 about Etreby’s appointment to the same role within the group.

Highlighting Brazil’s current chairmanship of the G20, the ministry stated that Egypt has been invited to participate as a guest in G20 meetings.

Etreby emphasized the enthusiasm of BRICS member states to extend an invitation to Egypt for membership in the alliance, as well as Brazil’s eagerness to involve Egypt in various discussions within the G20. This reflects Egypt’s regional and international standing, as well as its impactful role in addressing key international economic matters.

Etreby further stated that there are explicit presidential directives to ensure Egypt’s active and constructive participation, with a focus on enhancing cooperation between Egypt and BRICS member states across various platforms. Additionally, the directives emphasize addressing prioritized issues affecting Egypt, Africa, and other developing countries during G20 meetings.
