Putin to attend BRICS summit in India

Vladimir Putin is set to “definitely” participate in the upcoming BRICS summit in India later this year, according to remarks reported by TASS, citing Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

The confirmation underscores Moscow’s continued commitment to the BRICS platform at a time of heightened geopolitical tension and shifting global alliances.

While official dates for the summit have not yet been formally announced, earlier reporting by TASS, referencing sources within the Indian government, suggests the gathering could take place on September 12–13. The meeting is expected to bring together leaders from across the BRICS alliance — including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — alongside newer member states, as the grouping expands its influence and agenda.

Putin’s anticipated attendance is particularly significant given ongoing international scrutiny and the broader geopolitical climate. His participation signals Russia’s intent to remain actively engaged in multilateral forums that offer alternatives to Western-led institutions. For BRICS, it reinforces the bloc’s positioning as a platform for political dialogue, economic coordination, and strategic alignment among emerging economies.
