The BRICS CCI Healthcare Summit convened stakeholders from across BRICS nations to explore new models of collaboration in healthcare and wellness.
Held in New Delhi under the theme “Bridging Tradition and Innovation,” the summit was presided over by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare.
Ayush refers to alternative healthcare systems covered by the ministry, including ayurveda medicines, yoga and homeopathy.
In his keynote address, Shri Jadhav underscored the scale and responsibility of BRICS, which represents nearly half of the world’s population, one-third of global GDP, and one-fifth of global trade. He called on member states to work collectively towards inclusive, sustainable health models.
India’s Ayush Achievements
Highlighting the rapid growth of India’s Ayush ecosystem under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shri Jadhav outlined key milestones:
Over 1,000 Ayush colleges, including more than 500 Ayurveda institutions.
A robust research network driving drug discovery, validation, and education.
Strengthened medicine production systems with strict regulatory oversight.
He highlighted India’s advances in digital health innovation, nutraceutical research, and integration of Ayush with public health systems, making traditional knowledge more accessible and evidence-based.
Growing Global Recognition of Ayush
Shri Jadhav noted Ayush’s expanding global footprint:
Brazil hosts thriving communities of Ayurvedic practitioners.
Russia has formally incorporated Ayurveda into its healthcare framework.
China continues to expand its traditional medicine alongside modern practices.
While acknowledging the rapid growth of the global Ayurveda and Yoga market, he stressed the need for inclusive, ethical, and sustainable growth to safeguard traditional knowledge while enabling innovation.
Pathways for BRICS Cooperation
The Minister called for deeper intra-BRICS collaboration across several fronts, including public–private partnerships to drive research and product development; digital health innovation to expand outreach and integration; recognition of entrepreneurs, innovators, and farmers as the backbone of the Ayush economy; and harmonised regulatory frameworks across BRICS to open markets and strengthen resilience.
