The BRICS countries share similar views on many global issues and have the potential to form a unified alliance on international platforms, said Igor Makarov, Head of World Economy and International Affairs at the Higher School of Economics University.
An example of this was when BRICS countries presented a united front at a conference on biodiversity.
“It would be very good if the BRICS voice could be heard in a united front at various negotiations, climate negotiations or negotiations within the framework of the World Trade Organisation,” he said at a conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club and the Centre for Russian Studies at the East China Pedagogical University in Shanghai.
“And there are all conditions for this in many areas. The BRICS countries are really united or similar in their opinions, such coalitions have simply not been created yet. They need to be created, and this will strengthen our position, amplify our voice.”
