China has called on BRICS nations to take a more active role in shaping global artificial intelligence (AI) governance.
The statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry came during the first meeting of BRICS coordinators under Brazil’s presidency, where AI regulation was a key topic.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian reaffirmed China’s commitment to developing AI that is ethical, safe, sustainable, and inclusive. He emphasised the need for all countries to advance together with equal rights, opportunities, and rules, fostering an open, inclusive, and non-discriminatory AI ecosystem.
