Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim embarks on landmark visit to India

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is making his debut visit to India, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and garner support for Malaysia’s application to join BRICS. This trip marks a significant moment for both nations as they seek to renew and expand their partnership, which was valued at over US$16 billion in trade last year.

During his visit, Anwar Ibrahim is expected to engage in high-level discussions with Indian officials, emphasising Malaysia’s strategic interest in joining the BRICS group. This initiative reflects Malaysia’s ambition to enhance its global economic standing and deepen its connections with emerging economies. By aligning with BRICS, Malaysia hopes to leverage new opportunities for growth and investment.

The visit also underscores the importance of revitalising trade ties between Malaysia and India, building on their substantial economic relationship. Both countries are looking to explore new avenues for collaboration in sectors such as technology, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

As Anwar Ibrahim seeks to bolster Malaysia’s role in the international arena and reinforce economic ties with India, this trip represents a pivotal step in shaping the future of Malaysia’s global engagement and its strategic partnerships.
