South Africa’s BRICS policy will remain under new government, says Foreign Ministry

Zane Dangor, the Director General of the South African Foreign Ministry, confirmed that South Africa’s policy towards BRICS will remain consistent despite the potential formation of a government of national unity. This statement comes amid political discussions and the possibility of a more inclusive government structure in South Africa.

Dangor emphasised that South Africa’s commitment to BRICS remains steadfast and is viewed as a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy. He reiterated that the strategic importance of BRICS for South Africa extends beyond economic collaboration, as it also plays a vital role in promoting South-South cooperation and advancing the interests of the Global South on the international stage.

The Director General highlighted that any changes in the domestic political landscape will not affect the country’s external engagements, particularly with key partners like BRICS. He underscored the importance of continuity in foreign policy to maintain South Africa’s influence within the bloc and to ensure the ongoing success of initiatives that align with national interests, such as economic development, security cooperation, and multilateral diplomacy.
