Putin invites Venezuela’s Maduro to BRICS summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially extended an invitation to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to attend the upcoming BRICS summit, Telesur reports. This invitation marks another step in the strengthening ties between Russia and Venezuela, as both nations seek to counterbalance Western influence and forge a new path in the global geopolitical landscape.

Maduro’s potential participation underscores Venezuela’s interest in aligning more closely with BRICS, which represents a substantial portion of the world’s population and economic output.

For Maduro, attending the BRICS meeting could be an opportunity to garner support for his embattled government, which has faced intense international pressure and sanctions, particularly from the United States. Venezuela, rich in oil reserves but struggling with economic turmoil, could benefit from the economic and political partnerships offered by BRICS nations. These partnerships might include investments in infrastructure, energy, and agriculture, which are critical areas for Venezuela’s recovery.

From Russia’s perspective, inviting Maduro aligns with its strategy of building alliances with countries that challenge U.S. dominance. By welcoming Venezuela into the BRICS fold, Putin can strengthen its geopolitical clout while also deepening Russia’s ties with Latin American nations.

The invitation also signals BRICS’ openness to forging relationships with nations beyond its current membership, potentially paving the way for a more multipolar world order. As the summit approaches, the global community will be watching closely to see how these discussions unfold and what they could mean for the future of international relations.
