U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has voiced concerns about potential economic repercussions for America, claiming that BRICS nations plan to move away from the U.S. dollar, Benzinga reports. Greene tweeted that this shift could “destroy America’s economy.”
The BRICS group is exploring alternatives to the U.S. dollar for their transactions. Greene’s tweet highlights worries about the impact such a move could have on the U.S. economy.
Greene made these comments on Sunday during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s podcast “War Room.” She stated, “They are going to start using their own currencies or they may come up with an agreed-upon currency — not the dollar that they will trade with.” Bannon then mentioned reports suggesting that Saudi Arabia was moving away from a deal that tied it to the petrodollar.
This concern arises amid speculation on social media that a longstanding arrangement requiring Saudi Arabia to price its crude oil exports in U.S. dollars might be collapsing, which could undermine the dollar’s status as the global reserve currency. However, experts have dismissed these claims, clarifying that no formal “petrodollar” agreement exists.
