Argentina won’t join BRICS, says incoming foreign minister

Argentina will not be joining BRICS, the country’s incoming foreign minister Diana Mondino said.

Mondino, who is expected to join the cabinet of newly elected president Javier Milei, made the announcement on social media, according to reports.

“We will not join the BRICS,” Mondino was quoted as saying on X, formerly known as Twitter. Like Milei, Mondino is an economist.

Milei, a libertarian who has vowed to “blow up” the establishment, is due to be in inaugurated on Dec. 10.

The South American nation was invited to join the global alliance at the BRICS summit in August this year. Invites were also extended to Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. BRICS currently consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
