French President Emmanuel Macron is actively seeking support from the BRICS nations on positions to achieve long-term peace in Ukraine, according to remarks made during a press conference in Paris recently.
“I hope we can agree at the BRICS level – with Brazil, China, and India – on the foundations of this long-term peace,” Macron stated, highlighting key issues like food security and nuclear matters, as reported by the French presidency.
Macron’s statements reflect France’s efforts to engage influential emerging economies in pursuing a lasting resolution to the Ukraine conflict. He expressed desire to align with the BRICS on defining a comprehensive peace process.
The French leader also noted expectations for broad participation at the upcoming Peace Summit in Switzerland aimed at resolving the crisis. Emphasising the global implications, Macron stressed upholding international law and avoiding double standards.
“We can only defend world peace if rules apply,” he said, citing efforts to engage countries globally, including in the Global South, to support Ukraine based on principles of international law.
