As the BRICS alliance enters a new era, in an increasingly complex world where solutions seem depressingly elusive, it might be useful to look to the past for some perspective.
That’s why this week, we offer you insights from respected historian Roy Casagranda on what leaders can learn from history. Earlier this year, Casagranda gave a talk at the World Governments Summit on the topic. In a thought-provoking presentation, Casagranda elaborated on his theories about the forces that shape history, boiling it down to two categories of people: the innovators and the preservers. Each of these groups have positive and negative traits – the key, as with all things, is to find a balance, he argues.
Casagranda, who teaches at Austin Community College, has gained a reputation for unearthing truths about major world events that still resonate in our lives today. He has previously given lectures on the Crusades and How Islam saved Western Civilization.
